Vice President Kamala Harris is making history once again! On Saturday, Kamala attended a Pride celebration in Washington DC with husband Doug Emhoff, making her the first sitting vice president to march at a Pride event. As America’s second couple joined marchers during the Capital Pride Parade, Kamala sported a “Love Is Love” T-shirt complete with a bright pink blazer, while Doug wore a T-shirt with the words “Love first” written across it. “Happy Pride,” Kamala reportedly shouted out to the crowd.
“We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected.”
While there, Kamala delivered a brief speech, advocating for the passing of the Equality Act, which protects LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in the workplace, schools, and other key areas of life. “We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing,” Kamala said, according to NBC Washington. “There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed.”
Kamala previously kicked off Pride Month with a poignant post about its significance on Instagram. “Every June, we celebrate the contributions the LGBTQ+ community have made to our nation’s past, present, and future – but we must recommit ourselves to doing everything in our power to protect the community from discrimination and harm and deliver full and equal rights to LGBTQ+ Americans,” she wrote on June 4.

Ella Emhoff appears to be off the market! The 21-year-old model and stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris has been the subject of romance rumors as of late after she was spotted on a dinner date in February with a man by the name of Sam Hine. Most recently, the two were photographed holding hands while out and about in New York City. Although they make an extremely stylish pair, neither Ella nor Sam have publicly addressed the speculation about their relationship. So, as we wait for more details to unfold, get to know more about Sam ahead – we wonder if he’s met Kamala and Doug Emhoff yet!
Introducing Ella Emhoff! When Saturday Night Live announced Maya Rudolph as the host for March 27’s show, we expected a political sketch with an impression of Vice President Kamala Harris. After all, Rudolph has made her impression iconic over the past few months. However, we weren’t expecting the VP’s stepdaughter to make an appearance – well, Chloe Fineman’s portrayal of her, that is.
In a skit centering on Passover, Rudolph’s Kamala is attempting to build bridges with her political opponents, alongside husband Doug Emhoff, played by Martin Short. Although Fineman’s moment as Ella is brief, she steals the show in her prairie-style dress and dramatic catwalk. “Momala serving matzo while I’m serving looks,” she joked. Watch the full skit above, but keep an eye out at 3:05 for Ella’s entrance.
Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff have been together for eight years, but they’re still learning (hilarious) things about their relationship. You may know that the vice president-elect and her husband met on a blind date, but did you know Kamala Googled Doug beforehand? I’m guessing you probably didn’t, since Doug wasn’t even aware of that fun fact until the couple’s CBS News Sunday Morning interview on Jan. 17.
Host Jane Pauley asked Kamala about the early days of the couple, who were set up by a friend. “You totally Googled him, didn’t you?” she joked. Doug wasn’t ready for the big “reveal” as Kamala admitted, “I’ve never been asked that!” Turns out, she totally did.
“That’s so funny you asked me that question,” Kamala said after laughing with her shocked husband. “So yes, my best friend set us up on a blind date. She said, ‘Just trust me. Just trust me.’ She wanted me to just kinda go into it and she said, ‘Don’t Google him.’ I did.” Doug already knew a bit about Kamala (then California’s attorney general) before they met, but he still had a secret to share about his side of their love story.
“One of my buddies was in town and we went to the Laker game. . . . I told him the story,” Doug shared. “I said, ‘What do you think I should text her?’ We sat there in the stands and came up with this text which was something like, ‘Hey, it’s Doug. Awkward. I’m texting you.'” Sometimes, you need a little help from a friend, right? It all worked out for Kamala and Doug in the end. Watch their sweet interview in full above.
